Sacagawea was only seventeen years old when she was chosen by Lewis and Clark to help them on their long and dangerous expedition. They wanted to cross the vast and mostly unexplored American continent. From 1804-1806, Sacagawea's presence proved to be an integral part of the success of the first American transcontinental expedition. As a Shoshone Indian, she was able to act as a guide and interpreter. At times she saved the explorers from certain death. Her story of incredible courage and strength continues to inspire people today.
