Wordless Books

Wordless Books

Wordless books are a great tool for so many reasons. Students who don't quite yet know how to read can use them to tell stories and familiarize themselves with the concepts of beginning, middle, and end. Wordless books are also great for assessing and developing oral language. They make great writing prompts. And they prompt students to look for clues in the photos or illustrations, which is a great habit that will serve them well as they are learning to decode words. We have three series that offer wordless books, each bringing a different strength to your classroom library.

My World Wordless Set

My World Wordless Set

The My World Wordless Set contains a copy of 10 wordless books from the My World series. Topics include animals, transportation, growing things, recreation, and community, with 2 wordless books on each theme.

These books are great because they introduce the idea of nonfiction and informational texts to students who may not yet know how to read.

Zoozoo Into the Wild Wordless Set

Zoozoo Into the Wild Wordless Set

These books are part of the Zoozoo Into the Wild series of paired texts, which features eight zoo animals, with a fiction, nonfiction, and wordless book for each animal.

The wordless titles tell a story (with synopses in the back) about an interaction or adventure, but children are encouraged to make up their own stories to match the images.

Oral Language Development Series Entry Set

Oral Language Development Series Entry Set

These books are part of a larger series that focuses on language structures, and within that series, they are intended as an assessment tool, but they're also great for other classroom purposes.

Targeted at ELL students, these books give students a chance to practice calling up common vocabulary on the topics of school, family, clothing, food, and more.
